Triton Foodworks Pvt. Ltd. operates within India's ag-tech sector, specializing in hydroponic agriculture to produce pesticide-free fruits and vegetables. Founded in 2014, the company was established by a group of friends—Ullas Samrat, Dhruv Khanna, Deepak Kukreja, Devanshu Shivnani, and Vaibhav Batra—who, despite lacking formal agricultural backgrounds, shared a passion for technology-driven farming. The initial idea was sparked by Ullas Samrat's search for clean farming methods for his family's land. This led the team to explore hydroponics, with Dhruv Khanna visiting farms in Singapore for practical insights and connecting with Deepak Kukreja, who possessed technical hydroponics experience.
The company's core business involves growing produce in climate-controlled greenhouses using proprietary hydroponic and vertical farming systems. This method allows for cultivation with significantly less water—up to 95% less than traditional farming—and minimal to no pesticides, ensuring a consistent, high-quality, and residue-free output year-round. Triton Foodworks manages over 200,000 square feet of cultivation area, producing more than 700 tonnes of fruits and vegetables annually. Their product portfolio includes items like lettuce, basil, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
Triton Foodworks serves a diverse clientele, including retail, institutional, and restaurant sectors. The business model has two primary revenue streams. The first, and most significant, is the direct sale of produce to business-to-business (B2B) clients and to consumers under its brand, ChopChop, which has accounted for a substantial portion of its revenue. The second stream involves setting up hydroponic farms for other clients, such as family offices and bankers, and participating in revenue-sharing agreements. The company secured an undisclosed amount in a seed funding round on January 22, 2019, from the incubator Gastrotope, which has supported its operational scaling and technological investment.
The founding team brings a varied skill set to the venture. Dhruv Khanna handles operations and marketing, Deepak Kukreja oversees the technical farming aspects, and Devanshu Shivnani manages finances. This combination of expertise has enabled the company to develop its technology in-house, reducing costs and adapting its systems for the Indian market. The company started with a pilot project in Delhi and has since expanded its operations to multiple locations, including Mumbai, Pune, and Mahabaleshwar.
