TRILAB is a Czech company that develops and manufactures Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printers, specializing in delta kinematics for the professional and industrial sectors. The firm was established in 2016 by Vojtěch Tambor and Michal Boháč, who leveraged their backgrounds in R&D and biomedical technologies to target an initial market in research and development.
Vojtěch Tambor, holding a PhD in biomarker research, first explored 3D printing to create custom components for R&D projects in biomedicine, which led to the design of his first delta-based printer. Michal Boháč previously founded and led the Czech branch of Bruker, a company where he introduced advanced spectrometry technology to local hospitals. This combined expertise shaped TRILAB's focus on providing comprehensive 3D printing solutions. In November 2021, Prusa Research, a major global 3D printer manufacturer, acquired an 80% stake in TRILAB, which now operates as "Trilab - A Prusa Research Company". This strategic partnership was intended to help TRILAB scale its growth and expand into new markets, while allowing Prusa to enter the corporate and industrial B2B sector. Michal Boháč has since left the company, with Vojtěch Tambor remaining as CEO.
The company's business model revolves around the sale of high-end 3D printers and providing associated support and services to a global client base that includes industries like automotive, healthcare, aerospace, and manufacturing. Its client roster features prominent names such as Nike, Skoda, and Lasvit. Revenue is generated directly from the sale of its printer systems. The firm’s core technology is its delta kinematics, where the printhead is controlled by three arms moving in unison, a design that enables faster printing speeds and high precision compared to conventional cartesian printers. TRILAB's printers are known for features that cater to professional environments, such as easily swappable magnetic printheads for different material types, a fixed print bed that enhances stability, and remote printer management via a web interface and a detachable wireless display called DeltaControl. The product line includes the DeltiQ series, which are versatile printers praised for their print quality, and the AzteQ series, which features a closed and actively heated chamber up to 80°C for printing with advanced industrial materials like PA, PC, and PP. This allows for the production of functional prototypes, tooling, jigs, and fixtures, providing clients with significant time and cost savings.
