Tracetel
Tracetel has developed innovative micro-electronic solutions destined to exchange data stored on transponders.
In 1998, a new French SME named Tracetel was founded, starting its journey in the world of radio-frequency identification (RFID) and in-car computing. In its early years, the company developed tracking and reader systems for major clients, including equipping 25,000 systems for Renault and providing solutions for the French Police Force. This initial phase established their technical capabilities in tracking and data systems. A significant shift occurred in 2005 when the company redefined its strategy, evolving from a component developer to a multidisciplinary project integrator. By 2006, Tracetel had identified a new, growing market: personal urban transportation. This pivot marked the company's second act, focusing on providing complete, integrated solutions for cities. The new direction quickly gained traction. Tracetel began developing and installing self-service bicycle systems. Starting with a contract in Orleans in 2007, the company went on to deploy its bike-sharing solutions in other French cities like Rennes and Bordeaux, and even expanded internationally to Luxembourg. Alongside bike systems, Tracetel also moved into the electric vehicle market, supplying and developing charging stations. While Tracetel has not had a major public event like an IPO or a large-scale acquisition, its key defining moment was this successful strategic pivot, transforming its business model to align with the future of urban mobility.
