TopLine Game Labs

TopLine Game Labs was established in Los Angeles, California in 2013 by founder Gene Ragan and was led by CEO David Geller. The company entered the social gaming and fantasy sports market with a significant $25 million Series B investment from Cantor Ventures in June 2013. This initial funding was intended to build out its team, launch new products, and capitalize on the assets of the former Cantor Fantasy Sports offering.

David Geller brought extensive experience to the venture, having previously served as the Global Head of Fantasy Sports for Yahoo! Sports and as President and COO of a Dreamworks Animation technology incubator. His background in product development, marketing, and operations, particularly in building online and mobile platforms, was central to the company's strategy. Geller's vision was to address a gap he observed in season-long fantasy sports, where user engagement would often decline as the season progressed for those no longer in contention.

The company focused on developing a mobile-first, platform-agnostic architecture to deliver short-duration fantasy sports and other entertainment-based social games. This strategy aimed to capture user attention for brief periods, allowing them to engage with games based on sports, reality shows, or even stock market predictions. The business model centered on creating casual games designed to increase brand engagement. The product portfolio was built to be available on mobile devices, desktops, and other platforms, with an initial goal of releasing a weekly fantasy football game. However, the company appears to be deadpooled and is no longer in operation.
