TinyPulse offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform focused on employee engagement and feedback. Founded in 2012 by serial entrepreneur David Niu, the company was created to provide business leaders with a way to gauge employee happiness and sentiment in near real-time. The inspiration for TinyPulse came after Niu took a "careercation," during which he interviewed entrepreneurs about their main challenges, with a common theme being the surprise of sudden employee departures. This insight led to the development of a tool designed to preemptively identify and address workplace issues.
The platform's core functionality revolves around brief, recurring "pulse" surveys that are sent to employees to gather timely feedback. These short, frequent surveys are designed to be less burdensome than traditional annual reviews and provide continuous insight into the health of the company culture. All survey responses are anonymous, which encourages honest and candid feedback from employees who might otherwise hesitate to voice their concerns. The system also allows for anonymous two-way communication, enabling managers to follow up on feedback without compromising an employee's identity. Beyond pulse surveys, the platform includes features for peer-to-peer recognition, customizable 1-on-1 agenda builders, and goal tracking to support employee development.
TinyPulse primarily serves mid-sized companies with 200-5,000 employees, but its client base ranges from startups to Fortune 500 companies across various sectors, including technology and healthcare. The business model is subscription-based, generating revenue by providing clients with access to its suite of employee engagement tools. In July 2021, TinyPulse was acquired by Limeade, an employee well-being technology company, for an initial $8.8 million in cash. Following the acquisition, the product was known as Limeade Advanced Listening. In March 2024, WebMD Health Services, which had acquired Limeade, announced the reintroduction of the TinyPulse brand, signaling a continued focus on employee engagement solutions.
