Threadsol was established in 2012 by a team of four founders: Mausmi Ambastha, Manasij Ganguli, Bratish Goswami, and Abhishek Srivastava. The idea originated from Mausmi Ambastha, who, with her extensive experience in the garment industry and a Master's degree in Fashion Technology, identified a critical need for technology to minimize fabric waste—a component that constitutes up to 80% of a garment's production cost. She partnered with Manasij Ganguli, an engineer with a background in software development for major companies like Visa and Boeing, to address this challenge.
The company developed a suite of software solutions aimed at the apparel manufacturing sector, utilizing artificial intelligence, big data, and mobility to enhance profitability. Its core offerings, IntelloCut and IntelloBuy, focused on optimizing fabric purchasing and cutting processes. IntelloCut is a cloud-based platform that provides optimized cut plans, roll plans, and lay plans, which was adopted by over 90 factories in its early years. IntelloBuy assists in accurately estimating fabric requirements, thereby reducing sourcing costs. These tools allow businesses to measure, predict, and optimize material utilization. The business model included both one-time sales and monthly subscriptions for its software.
Serving manufacturers for prominent brands like Zara, Adidas, and Nike, Threadsol established a presence in 15 countries. The company's growth was supported by funding from investors including Blume Ventures and Catamaran Ventures. A significant milestone was reached in December 2018 when Coats, the world's leading industrial thread manufacturer, acquired Threadsol for $12 million. This acquisition integrated Threadsol into Coats Digital, the software division of Coats. The move was part of Coats' strategy to expand its software solutions business for the apparel and footwear industries, combining Threadsol's technology with its existing suite of products to offer a more comprehensive service to manufacturers and brands worldwide.
