In 1970, the world of electronics was getting hotter, literally. That year, Thermacore was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with a specific mission: to take heat pipe technology from a niche lab concept and turn it into a commercial product. The goal was to solve increasingly complex thermal management problems for a growing number of industries. Thermacore began by developing and manufacturing custom thermal management systems. They focused on creating highly engineered solutions for markets like military, aerospace, and computing. In the 1990s, the company was a key player in commercializing heat pipes for cooling computer CPUs, which is now a global standard. The company expanded its reach by acquiring Isoterix Limited in the UK in 1998, establishing Thermacore Europe. A significant chapter in Thermacore's story was its acquisition by Aavid Thermalloy in October 2016. Aavid, itself a major player in thermal management solutions since 1964, saw the value in Thermacore's specialized expertise and extensive patent portfolio, which included over 100 patents related to heat pipes and electronics cooling. The acquisition was aimed at strengthening Aavid's position as a global supplier and expanding its services into the aerospace and defense markets. Today, as part of Aavid, the company continues to focus on developing high-performance thermal solutions for demanding applications.
