The Memo was an online business and technology publication founded in London by journalist Alex Wood in April 2015. Wood, an experienced journalist with a background at the BBC and Bloomberg, created The Memo to provide curated news and commentary on technology and innovation. The publication's mission was to make the future more human by exploring how business and technology were changing the world.
The Memo published daily content on the web, including high-profile interviews, targeting individuals interested in the changing face of business and the influence of innovation on daily life. Its content was aimed at professionals across all industries, translating complex tech trends into accessible information. The business generated revenue through advertising and content partnerships, such as a collaboration with Reuters to distribute video content to its subscribers.
In February 2018, just under three years after its launch, The Memo was acquired by Forbes Media for an undisclosed sum. This strategic acquisition was part of Forbes' plan to expand its European presence. Upon the acquisition, The Memo's website and back-catalogue of content were migrated to Forbes.com. Founder Alex Wood joined Forbes as its European Editor, and The Memo's team formed the core of Forbes' first dedicated European editorial team. The Memo ceased to operate as an independent publication following the acquisition.
