TermSheet.io, a product of Humble Paper, was established to streamline the fundraising process for early-stage companies in India. Founded in 2013 by Vivek Durai, the Chennai-based company officially launched its platform in December 2014. The venture originated from Durai's initiative to standardize early-stage funding by releasing a set of legal documents under a creative commons license, which evolved into the TermSheet.io platform. The company was incubated at the Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI) at IIT Madras' Research Park.
The platform is designed to reduce the friction and time involved in capital raising for both startups and investors. It targets the early-stage investment market, assisting founders who often face challenges with the legal complexities and paperwork of fundraising. TermSheet.io facilitates seed investments by qualifying founders and angel investors, syndicating funding rounds, and managing the closing process, which includes handling commitments, payments, and legal documentation. To ensure compliance, the company collaborates with chartered accountants, company secretaries, and lawyers. The business model involves charging a percentage of the amount raised, typically one percent for larger deals, or taking a two percent equity stake in smaller deals where more comprehensive support is provided.
In April 2015, TermSheet.io secured approximately $100,000 in a pre-seed funding round from a group of angel investors spanning India, Dubai, Singapore, and the US, bringing its total raised funds to $165,000 at the time. By then, the platform had already facilitated significant deals, including Ather Energy's $1 million fundraise and Aisle's $100,000 round. According to a Tracxn report updated in July 2025, the company is listed as deadpooled. Conversely, other reports from April 2025 indicate that a company named TermSheet, a software provider for real estate teams with founders named Roger Smith and Sahil Rattan, was set to be acquired by Intapp. The real estate software company's platform helps teams manage deal pipelines, track data, and streamline investments.
