In 1990, Argentina’s telecommunications landscape was reshaped by the privatization of the state-owned company, ENTel. This move, driven by the need to modernize infrastructure and improve service, led to the creation of Telecom Argentina on November 8, 1990. The company was initially established when a consortium led by Stet-France Telecom acquired the northern region of ENTel's operations. This event marked the beginning of a new era for telecommunications in the country, transitioning the sector from state control to private enterprise. A pivotal moment in the company's journey occurred in 2017 when Telecom Argentina announced a merger with the major cable television provider, Cablevisión. This strategic consolidation created the largest converged telecommunications and media company in Argentina, poised to offer a "quad-play" of services including landline, mobile, internet, and pay-TV. The merger was a direct response to regulatory changes aimed at increasing competition and met the growing consumer demand for bundled services. Following the all-stock deal, the combined entity continued to operate under the Telecom Argentina name, with former Cablevisión shareholders holding a majority 55% stake.
