Founded in 2018 by Alfarouk Saleh and Mohamed Monier, Tareeqi emerged as a Cairo-based EdTech startup focused on enhancing the safety and efficiency of transportation for educational institutions. The company developed a mobile application designed to track the bus fleets of schools, universities, and other institutions across the MENA region. A key aspect of its service was the ability to provide this tracking without the need for installing costly GPS devices in the vehicles.
The application provided several features for different user groups. For parents and students, it offered the ability to see the bus's exact location in real-time, providing accurate arrival times. For drivers, the app could display the fastest routes, including all scheduled passenger pickups. This system aimed to streamline the daily commute for students, parents, and school administrators, making the process more transparent and manageable. The business operated on a B2C model within the information services and application software industries.
In May 2018, Tareeqi secured $60K in a Seed funding round. A significant milestone in the company's history occurred on June 14, 2021, when it was acquired by eMushrif, an Oman-based startup specializing in IoT-enabled transportation solutions. This acquisition was part of eMushrif's broader strategy for regional expansion into North Africa, following a previous acquisition of Kuwaiti startup MyRoute. Following the acquisition, Tareeqi's founders, Alfarouk Saleh and Mohamed Monier, took on roles managing eMushrif's expansion into the Egyptian market, leveraging their local expertise.
