TareasPlus is an educational marketplace for video courses, primarily targeting the Spanish-speaking market. Founded in 2012 by engineers Hernán Jaramillo and Roberto Cuartas, the company started as a YouTube channel offering short video tutorials on common math problems. The founders, who met in college while tutoring to pay for their studies, realized that unrestricted access to lesson explanations could help students master subjects. This insight, combined with YouTube's distribution capabilities, formed the basis of their venture.

After achieving significant viewership, with around 500,000 monthly visits, the founders relocated to San Francisco to secure venture capital, officially launching the TareasPlus portal. They secured $850,000 in a seed funding round in November 2012 from Academic Partnerships. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California, with a content production center in Medellín, Colombia.

The platform operates as a marketplace where instructors and experts can upload and distribute their knowledge through paid or free video courses across various disciplines. While initially focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects like math, physics, and chemistry for K-12 and early college students, the course offerings expanded to include programming, business, and finance. The business model involves taking a commission from the sales of paid courses, with prices set by the authors. The platform provides teachers with a way to connect with students and gives students access to a vast library of instructional content to learn at their own pace.
