The story of what is now TRX Gold Corporation began with a belief in the untapped potential of Tanzania's geology. Originally incorporated in 1990, the company that would evolve into TRX Gold was founded by James E. Sinclair, a notable gold investor. For years, the company operated under different names, including Tanzanian Royalty Exploration Corporation, before a key transformation began. A pivotal moment came when the company acquired its interest in the Buckreef project in 2011. This project, previously operated by the Tanzanian state in the 1980s, became the company's central focus. The journey involved a crucial joint venture with the state mining company, STAMICO, which holds a 45% non-dilutable stake in the Buckreef venture. The company underwent significant rebranding, changing its name from Tanzanian Gold Corporation to TRX Gold Corporation in May 2022 to reflect its new strategy. This wasn't just a name change; it signaled a shift towards active production. The second quarter of 2022 marked a major milestone as the company recorded its first-ever revenue from gold sales, demonstrating the viability of its investment in the Buckreef project. Publicly traded on both the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange, this transition from pure exploration to a revenue-generating producer marked a new chapter in its long history.
