Táximo emerged in 2012 from the venture builder Polymath Ventures, aiming to professionalize the fragmented taxi industry in Latin America. The company was co-founded by Antoine Dumit and Salomón Stroh. Dumit, who served as CEO, brought a background in finance and strategy, including experience at McKinsey & Company and an MBA from MIT. This expertise was instrumental in navigating the complex logistics and investment landscape of the taxi market. The company was conceived to address inefficiencies in a market dominated by small-scale owners who often lacked the resources for proper vehicle maintenance and driver training, leading to high driver churn and inconsistent service quality.

Operating primarily in major Colombian cities, Táximo's core business is the complete administration of taxi fleets. The company targets individual taxi owners and investors, offering to manage their vehicles entirely in exchange for a guaranteed fixed monthly return. This model absolves owners of the operational hassles and risks associated with maintenance, driver management, and daily operations. By achieving economies of scale, Táximo invests in maintaining a professional fleet and training drivers in customer service, thereby improving the overall experience for passengers. Revenue is generated from the operational income of the managed fleets, from which the company pays the fixed return to owners and retains the difference. By 2015, the company was managing a fleet of 1,000 taxis and had secured a $4.6 million investment to purchase more vehicles and fund regional expansion, including plans for Peru.
