Suit-Kote
Asphalt products manufacturing and road construction services.
Suit-Kote Corporation is a vertically integrated asphalt products manufacturer and provider of road construction and maintenance services in the Northeastern United States. Founded in 1921 by Harry J. Suits Sr. and two partners as Bolton, Suits, and Gibbs, the company has a long history of family ownership and operation. After his partners retired, Harry Sr. continued to grow the business. His sons, Harry “Bud” Suits Jr. and Frank H. Suits Sr., took over in 1958, and in 1980, all family interests were consolidated under the Suit-Kote name. The third generation of the Suits family, including Frank Suits Jr. as President, took leadership in 1993.
The company's business model is centered on the production and distribution of asphaltic materials, including asphalt emulsions and hot mix asphalt, from twenty-one strategic locations in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, Canada. This vertical integration was significantly enhanced by the 1992 acquisition of McConnaughay Technologies, a notable authority in asphalt product development. Suit-Kote serves a diverse client base, from federal, state, and local governments to industrial and commercial companies. Its services encompass heavy highway construction, pavement preservation, and commercial and residential paving.
On August 4, 2025, Colas Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of the Bouygues group, signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Suit-Kote's shares from the founding family for over $450 million. The transaction, expected to close by the end of September 2025, positions Suit-Kote to support Colas's growth strategy in the U.S., particularly in the bitumen distribution market. At the time of the agreement, Suit-Kote employed over 750 people and generated approximately $500 million in annual revenue.
