Subspace operates a global Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform designed to enhance the performance of real-time internet applications. Founded in 2018 by Bayan Towfiq and William King, the Los Angeles-based company aimed to address issues of latency, jitter, and packet loss that can degrade user experience in applications where instantaneous communication is critical. Bayan Towfiq, the CEO, previously founded Flowroute Inc., a communications provider, bringing extensive experience in networking and telecommunications to the venture.

The company's business model is centered on providing a NaaS platform that developers can integrate into their applications with a simple configuration change. Subspace targets a diverse client base, including developers of multiplayer online games, voice and video applications, fintech solutions, and other real-time services. Revenue is generated by offering tiered access to its network services, which allows companies to scale their usage as they grow. The platform is built on a proprietary network of strategically placed hardware and a fiber-optic backbone, which is one of the top 10 most Internet Exchange (IX) connected networks globally. This infrastructure, combined with AI-driven routing that functions like a "weather map" for the internet, finds the most efficient path for data traffic.

Subspace's core service provides a more stable and faster alternative to the public internet for latency-sensitive applications. Its product suite includes PacketAccelerator, which improves latency and mitigates packet loss; SIPTeleport, for optimizing voice and video stream quality; and WebRTC-CDN for global WebRTC acceleration. A key feature is built-in, in-line security that detects and mitigates DDoS attacks close to the source without adding latency. For its clients, the benefits include a reduced time to market by outsourcing network performance, the ability to operate with a leaner engineering team, and a superior, more reliable user experience which can lead to lower customer churn and increased revenue. Despite its technological advancements and having 400 million users on its network, Subspace ceased its global network and business operations on May 13, 2022, citing financial constraints and challenging market conditions. Bayan Towfiq has since started Subspace 2.0 - Live! as of January 2023, continuing the focus on ultra-low latency networking.
