Studio Mir is a South Korean animation studio that provides end-to-end production services, from pre-production and storyboarding to final animation. The company was founded in 2010 by Jae-Myung Yu, who previously worked as an animation director on the series *Avatar: The Last Airbender*. Yu established the studio with executive director Kwang-il Han and head of business development Seung-wook Lee. The studio's name was inspired by the Soviet space station Mir, reflecting a spirit of collaboration and scientific breakthrough.
The studio's first major project was Nickelodeon's *The Legend of Korra*, a sequel to *Avatar*. This was a significant contract for a new studio, secured due to Yu's established relationship with the series' creators. Studio Mir not only provided animation but also contributed to pre-production and storyboarding, including complex martial arts choreography. This project set the stage for the studio's focus on international collaborations, primarily with U.S. companies, as its work has had limited release within South Korea.
Studio Mir operates on a total production model, handling all stages of the animation process in-house, which differentiates it from many studios that focus only on specific parts of production. Its business model is centered on work-for-hire contracts with major global clients, including Netflix, DreamWorks Animation, Warner Bros., and Riot Games. The studio has built a reputation for its fluid animation style that often blends influences from Japanese anime and American cartoons. Key projects in its portfolio include season four of *The Boondocks*, *Voltron: Legendary Defender*, *Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts*, *Dota: Dragon's Blood*, *The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf*, and *X-Men '97*. In February 2023, Studio Mir became a publicly listed company on the KOSDAQ exchange.
