Strive School operated as an online educational platform with a focus on training the next generation of software engineers in Europe. It was founded in 2019 by Tobia De Angelis and Diego Banovaz and based in Berlin, Germany. The venture was born out of De Angelis's own challenges in learning to code from existing online platforms. After several pivots with a previous company, he taught himself to code and identified a market need for a different approach to digital learning.
The company's core offering was intensive, fully online courses in web development and data science, designed to take beginners to a professional level. Strive School provided full-time programs in Full Stack Web Development, Front-end Web Development, and Data Science, with a part-time option available for web development. The curriculum blended theory with practical application, featuring live online lectures, guest speakers, and project-based work to build student portfolios. A key aspect of their model was to replicate a real-world work environment, emphasizing teamwork, pair programming, and Agile methodologies.
Strive School's business model was centered on an Income Share Agreement (ISA). Students paid a relatively small upfront fee to reserve their spot, with the bulk of the tuition deferred until they secured full-time employment in the tech industry. Upon employment, graduates would pay a percentage of their monthly income until the tuition was fully paid. A notable feature was the tuition waiver, where students who did not receive a job offer within 12 months of graduation would have their tuition costs waived, including the initial fee. The company received backing from the well-known accelerator Y Combinator. In March 2022, Strive School was acquired by Epicode, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
