Stream Media Pte. Ltd. is a Singapore-based company that developed MoVend, a global mobile in-app payment platform. Founded in March 2009 by Chua Zi Yong, an alumnus of the NUS Overseas Colleges programme, the company aimed to simplify monetization for mobile application developers. Stream Media was incubated at the National University of Singapore's Enterprise Incubator, gaining access to resources and mentorship.
The company's core product, MoVend, launched in July 2010 as an in-app commerce platform, primarily for Android. It functions as a payment aggregator, bundling various payment providers like carrier billing and PayPal into a single software development kit (SDK). This allows developers to integrate multiple payment options into their apps, enabling users to make purchases for virtual goods, subscriptions, or activations without exiting the application. The platform provides developers with features like user and license management, sales tracking, and analytics.
In February 2011, Stream Media secured S$1 million in a Series A funding round led by Stream Global and Singtel Innov8. This investment was aimed at expanding MoVend's reach by aggregating more global payment options and extending support to other mobile operating systems like iPhone, BlackBerry OS, and Windows Phone 7. The business model focused on providing a streamlined payment solution for developers, addressing the challenge of fragmented payment methods and helping them monetize their applications more effectively. In addition to MoVend, the company also developed Applorer, a game discovery application for Android.
