Stratum Energy Romania

Stratum Energy Romania is a natural gas and crude oil producer operating the Poduri gas field within the Moinesti EV-1 concession in Bacău County, Romania. The company was founded in 2008 and is headquartered in Bucharest. Its Romanian branch was incorporated on May 22, 2015.

The company commenced production in 2014, becoming the country's third-largest gas producer after state-owned Romgaz and Petrom. Initial operations at the Poduri 1 and Poduri 2 wells yielded 450,000 cubic meters of gas per day and 100 cubic meters of condensate and light crude mixture. The extracted gas is delivered to the national grid, operated by Transgaz, through a pipeline constructed by Stratum with a capacity of 4 million cubic meters per day.

In April 2024, Romania's Competition Council authorized the acquisition of Stratum Energy Romania by Emma Lambda Limited, a Cypriot subsidiary of the Czech investment fund EMMA Capital, controlled by billionaire Jiří Šmejc. This transaction integrates Stratum into EMMA Capital's portfolio, which includes Premier Energy, a major player in Romania's natural gas supply and distribution and electricity generation sectors. The acquisition was approved as it was determined not to pose significant obstacles to competition in the Romanian market.
