The story begins in 1886 with a veterinarian named F.E. Sanborn. He saw a need among American farmers and began offering them nutritional supplements for their homegrown feedstuffs. This simple idea to boost farm productivity led to the creation of The F.E. Sanborn Company, which would later become Standard Nutrition Company. The initial focus was purely on supplements, but as the years passed, the company evolved, developing comprehensive feeding strategies to improve animal health and production. The company has remained privately held, growing from its roots in supplements to a much broader agricultural business. Over the decades, it expanded its expertise into specific species, creating dedicated divisions like Standard Dairy Consultants and Standard Nutrition Services to better serve the unique needs of dairy, swine, and poultry producers. This specialization allowed them to offer more than just products, providing consultative partnerships to their clients. A significant event in the company's recent history occurred in May 2024. Standard Nutrition Company announced a major reorganization, forming a new entity called Passel Farms to house its pork production investments. This strategic move included the acquisition of Cactus Family Farms, facilitated by new investment partners, positioning the company for future growth and integration in the pork industry.
