Stamped was a mobile application startup founded in April 2011 and based in New York City.
The company was established by a team that included co-founder Bart Stein, who previously worked at Google where he met another one of his co-founders. The founding team's experience at Google influenced their approach to solving problems related to online recommendations. Stamped aimed to provide a platform for users to discover quality recommendations for restaurants, books, movies, and music from people they know and trust, as an alternative to anonymous review sites. The application allowed users to put their "stamp of approval" on things they liked best.
The venture garnered significant attention from investors, including Bain Capital Ventures, Google Ventures, and notable individuals like Justin Bieber, Ryan Seacrest, and Ellen DeGeneres. In October 2012, after approximately a year and a half of operation, Yahoo acquired Stamped for an undisclosed sum. This acquisition was the first under then-new Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. Following the acquisition, the Stamped application was discontinued by the end of that year, and the team, which included several former Google employees, was integrated into Yahoo's mobile development efforts to work on new projects.
