Founded in 2021 by Varun Gururaja and Amey Dalvi, SportiWe operates as a community-based sports application with a clear objective: to connect sporting enthusiasts globally. The company, officially NGSportiwe Technologies Pvt. Ltd, is headquartered in Mysore, India, with its technology development centered in Vadodara. The concept originated from founder Varun Gururaja's desire to create a platform that helps people maintain their sporting habits beyond their school years. He and co-founder Amey Dalvi identified key barriers, including lack of access to infrastructure, difficulty in finding playing partners, and limited awareness of available sporting goods and services.
SportiWe provides a digital ecosystem designed to address these challenges. The platform enables users to find and connect with other players geographically, discover sporting venues, and engage with communities based on common sporting interests. Key features include athlete networking and a court-finding tool. Users can also rate and review venues, enhancing the experience for others. The company's business model encompasses B2C, B2B, and B2B2C approaches, targeting individual sports enthusiasts as well as sporting venues. Revenue is generated through advertising, freemium models, subscriptions, and fees for services. Additionally, SportiWe has a corporate wellness wing called 'Elev8', which offers tailor-made sports and wellness programs for businesses to improve employee well-being.
The company launched its website in April 2022 and has since developed mobile applications for Android and iOS. It gained recognition from Startup India and was a top 3 finalist in the IIT-Bombay 10 minute to million contest. As of July 2022, the company had secured $551K in funding, including support from the Startup India Seed Fund. The initial idea received crucial backing from Varun's parents, K S Gururaja and Nalini Gururaja, who have been involved in various businesses for decades. The initial team of three founding employees has grown to over 30 full-time and part-time staff members across Mysore and Vadodara.
