What began as Conquest Communications in 1986 has transformed through a series of acquisitions into the company known today as Spectrio. While founders Aaron Kleinhandler and Mitchell Keller started the company, its modern story is one of private equity-driven growth. The core business focuses on providing a suite of in-store marketing technologies, from digital signage and on-hold music to Wi-Fi marketing and even scent marketing, all designed to engage customers at a physical location. The company's significant growth phase ignited through a strategy of aggressive acquisitions. Since 2015, Spectrio has acquired dozens of smaller companies in the fragmented marketing technology space, such as VS Networks, Industry Weapon, and Enplug. This roll-up strategy was fueled by private equity. After an initial investment by The Riverside Company in 2014, Bertram Capital acquired the firm in 2017. A pivotal event occurred in December 2020 when Spectrio was acquired by a larger private equity firm, The Jordan Company (TJC). This transaction provided the capital to continue its acquisition spree, with the existing management team remaining in place to lead the charge. Under TJC's ownership, Spectrio continues to consolidate the market by purchasing companies like InReality to add new capabilities such as AI-driven analytics to its platform, serving over 150,000 client locations.
