Sooper operates as a business-to-business marketplace focused on the Brazilian home improvement and construction materials sector. Founded in 2021 by Rafaela Khouri and Hygor Burza Dupin, the company was established to digitize a traditionally analog industry. Khouri, the CEO, brought relevant experience from her previous role as B2B director at the real estate technology company QuintoAndar, while Dupin, the CTO, had a background as head of M&A at Dock and as a founder of a B2B platform. The two met through a mentorship program hosted by the venture capital firm Canary.
The company's core business is a digital platform that connects small and medium-sized building material retailers with a broad network of manufacturers and distributors. This model aims to solve critical pain points for small retailers, who often struggle with limited supplier access, low bargaining power, and inefficient inventory management. Sooper's platform provides a one-stop-shop where these retailers can browse a large catalog of products, compare prices, and procure stock. For suppliers, the platform offers a streamlined way to reach a fragmented market of smaller shops, addressing logistical challenges, particularly in last-mile delivery.
Sooper's value proposition includes next-day delivery and financial solutions, such as offering credit lines to retailers, allowing them to pay for goods up to 90 days later. This helps retailers manage working capital more effectively and sell products they may not have in stock, knowing they can receive them quickly. The business model generates revenue by facilitating transactions on its platform. In January 2022, the company secured a significant seed round of R$32 million (approximately US$5.7 million) led by Kaszek and Canary, which fueled its initial expansion. A major milestone occurred in June 2024, when Sooper announced a merger with Tul, a larger, Colombia-based construction marketplace. This strategic union was designed to combine Sooper's local market penetration with Tul's scale and capital, creating a more robust operation in Brazil with a combined portfolio of over 82,000 products. Following the merger, Rafaela Khouri transitioned to the role of Country Manager for the combined entity's Brazilian operations.
