SOLARINBLUE

Solarinblue, established in December 2019, is a French enterprise focused on the development of floating offshore solar power technology. The company was founded by Aurélien Croq and Roy de Ruyter. Croq, an oceanographer with a PhD in marine geosciences, brings over a decade of experience in the offshore energy sector. De Ruyter has a background as an offshore operations manager and naval architect, with extensive experience in the deployment and maintenance of floating structures.

The company's core mission is to address land-use conflicts for renewable energy by moving solar photovoltaic (PV) installations to the sea. Solarinblue engineers floating solar systems designed to withstand harsh offshore environments, including waves over 10 meters high and wind speeds up to 200 km/h. Their technology is also intended for a lifespan of more than 30 years with minimal environmental impact.

Solarinblue's business model involves developing and deploying this robust floating solar technology. A key aspect of their strategy is the creation of hybrid offshore farms that combine solar and wind energy generation. The company’s first prototype, a 100 kWp system, was installed in the port of Sète in the Mediterranean Sea in March 2023. Solarinblue is also engaged in a project called 'SUNRISE,' supported by ADEME, to develop a 5 MW commercial pilot farm. This project aims to demonstrate the technology's viability in open sea conditions and includes partners like BlueFloat Energy and the research institute Centrale Nantes. The company's clients include energy producers and offshore wind farm developers looking to optimize their marine space and energy output.
