Founded in 2011 by Mac Bartine and Roger Kiger, Smartria was created to simplify the complex and often manual processes of RIA compliance. Mac Bartine, the CEO, previously served as the president of a wealth management firm, where he experienced firsthand the challenges of compliance management. This experience directly informed the development of Smartria's platform, aiming to make compliance more efficient and less burdensome for financial professionals. The company's business model is subscription-based, offering its software-as-a-service (SaaS) to firms of varying sizes. It serves a client base that includes hundreds of RIA firms across the United States. In March 2024, Smartria acquired Compasso, another compliance software provider, to expand its scale and enhance its service offerings.
