Founded in 2009 by Steve Harris and Rob Smith, SIPHON Networks emerged as a systems integrator focused on enabling service providers and resellers to deploy cloud-based Unified Communications (UC) services. The founders identified a gap in the market where smaller, agile service providers had the ambition to launch cloud telephony but lacked the necessary technical and integration expertise. With an initial investment and a grant from the Welsh Assembly, the company was established to provide the foundational platforms for these emerging players.
The company's business model centers on being a UC technology enabler and distributor for the channel. It provides channel partners with the integrated platforms and support needed to deliver a comprehensive UC experience to their customers. This includes the design, installation, and support of a wide array of products such as Session Border Controllers (SBCs), media gateways, call recording, and voice platforms from vendors like Sonus (now Ribbon Communications), Audiocodes, and BroadSoft. In a strategic move to broaden its offerings, SIPHON acquired VCOMM UK in 2012, which expanded its portfolio to include a full range of Customer Premise Equipment (CPE).
A significant milestone in the company's trajectory was its acquisition by Nuvias Group on October 4, 2016. This acquisition was intended to accelerate SIPHON's expansion across the UK and the broader EMEA region, with the company continuing to operate with its existing management team, including co-founder Steve Harris as Managing Director. Post-acquisition, the company became the UC arm of Nuvias, eventually rebranding to Nuvias UC. The firm supports channel partners by offering solutions for Microsoft Lync/Skype for Business and a suite of video and collaboration tools. The business has also developed a 'Go Monthly' financing scheme and a Device-as-a-Service option to facilitate partner sales.
