Sigrid Education is an e-learning company that provides a platform for teachers and educational institutes to bring their course materials, adaptive tests, and teaching online. The company was founded in late 2012 by Ajit Maheswari, Atul Kasaundhan, and Aakash Aggarwal, all alumni of IIT BHU. Maheswari, who serves as CEO, had previous experience with an ed-tech startup incubated during his time at college. Kasaundhan acts as CTO, bringing experience in iOS and Android application development from his time at Adobe, and Aggarwal is the COO.
The company's primary service is an online platform that partners with educators to make their teaching methods and academic expertise accessible to a wider student audience, particularly in the K-12 and test-preparation sectors in India. The platform aims to provide a personalized, one-on-one learning experience, allowing students to learn at their own pace. Course content is created and recorded using a proprietary, low-bandwidth platform called 'Sigrid Notes,' designed for compatibility across all devices and operating systems. In addition to courseware, the service features adaptive tests that focus on a student's areas of weakness and provide comprehensive performance analysis and peer comparisons.
In June 2015, Sigrid Education secured an early-stage funding round of an undisclosed amount (reportedly under $1 million) from Oliphans Capital. At the time of funding, the platform had 100,000 registered users. The capital was intended to be used for content development, technology refinement, and marketing, with a goal to introduce courses in 50 prominent test-prep and K-12 curriculum areas. However, according to its PitchBook profile, the company is now listed as out of business.
