Siemer & Associates, established in 2008 by David Siemer, operated as a boutique merchant bank headquartered in Santa Monica, California. The firm specialized in providing financial advisory services, including mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and divestitures, primarily for companies in the digital media, software, and internet sectors. Its business model centered on assisting later-stage internet, software, and digital media companies in identifying strategic buyers and executing complex, often cross-border, transactions.
David Siemer, who holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, founded the firm to support technology, software, and digital media companies throughout their lifecycle. His background includes a BS in accounting and management information systems from Lehigh University. The firm's venture capital arm, Siemer Ventures, was co-founded by Siemer and Eric Manlunas after a merger with Frontera Group. Siemer Ventures focused on early-stage technology companies, particularly those in the "late seed stage," bridging the funding gap for businesses that had outgrown early investors but were not yet ready for a traditional venture capital round. The venture arm typically invested between $150,000 and $1,000,000 per company.
In July 2014, Siemer Ventures rebranded to Wavemaker Partners and raised a $45 million fund to continue its investment strategy with a heightened focus on Southern California and Southeast Asia. This move included launching Wavemaker Labs, a Singapore-based incubator. Over its operational years, Siemer & Associates completed more than 50 transactions with a total value exceeding $3 billion and raised over $1.5 billion in equity capital. In October 2016, Siemer & Associates was acquired by CEC Capital Group, a Chinese private investment bank, as part of CEC's expansion into the U.S. market. Following the acquisition, the entity became inactive. David Siemer went on to found Wave Financial, a digital asset management firm.
