In 1916, a company called Tomita Shokai was established in Japan to serve as the exclusive logistics provider for a major chemical manufacturer. This early entity would lay the groundwork for a logistics giant. After a reorganization and grappling with the post-war dissolution of Japan's zaibatsu conglomerates, the company was re-established in 1946 as Senko Transport by a group of volunteers. The name itself symbolized a rebirth, combining the characters for 'fan' (a symbol of its predecessor) and 'renaissance'. Starting with the transport of coal and restoration materials in Kyushu, SENKO methodically expanded its capabilities. By the 1950s, it had launched a trucking business, followed by warehousing in 1959, and became an early adopter of computer technology in 1965 to streamline operations. This foundation allowed SENKO to build a national network. A pivotal moment came in 1990 when the company listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, providing capital for further growth. As Japan's economy evolved, so did SENKO. It diversified from simple transport into comprehensive supply chain management, offering services for retail, housing materials, and chemicals. The company expanded internationally, establishing a presence in Asia and North America. In 2017, marking its 100th anniversary, the company transitioned to a holding company structure, becoming SENKO Group Holdings Co., Ltd., to better manage its diverse and growing portfolio of businesses, which now spans from logistics and trading to manufacturing and even life support services.
