Senceive provides wireless condition monitoring technology for the civil engineering, rail, and mining industries. The company was established in 2005 as a spinout from University College London (UCL) to commercialize wireless sensor network technology developed in its research labs. The initial research, conducted between 2003 and 2005 by Dr. Lionel Sacks and Dr. Matthew Britton, focused on creating a distributed network of smart sensors capable of adapting to changes and failures.
The company's core products include the FlatMesh and GeoWAN wireless communication platforms. FlatMesh is designed for high-density sensor deployments requiring frequent reporting, while GeoWAN serves long-range applications up to 15 kilometers. Senceive's product suite features a variety of sensors such as tiltmeters, crack sensors, and vibrating wire sensors, as well as communication gateways and cameras. The integrated InfraGuard solution combines tilt meters and automated cameras to provide early warnings for events like slope failures. This data is accessible through a web-based portal, WebMonitor, which allows for remote configuration and alerts.
Senceive's clients include asset owners, large engineering firms, surveyors, consultants, and contractors. The company's technology is used to monitor critical infrastructure, providing real-time data to manage risks, extend asset life, and ensure safety. In February 2019, the company received a £750,000 investment from the Rail Supply Growth Fund to support its expansion. On May 4, 2021, Senceive was acquired by Previan (formerly Eddyfi/NDT), a Canadian industrial technology group, but continues to operate as a distinct business unit under its own name. Graham Smith led the company as CEO for 13 years, overseeing its growth from a small startup to an international business, before retiring in December 2021. Martin Turgeon subsequently took over as the new president.
