Segura water

Segura Water, founded in 2023 and headquartered in London, operates a mobile water testing platform. The company provides a portable device and an accompanying application that enables users to test for heavy metals and other contaminants in water.

The technology uses single-use, pre-calibrated electrochemical test strips that can simultaneously measure up to 13 heavy metals, including lead, copper, and arsenic. It delivers results in under five minutes with a limit of quantification between 1.0 parts per billion (ppb) to 5 parts per million (ppm). This system is based on Anodic Strip Voltammetry, a method adapted from the glucose monitoring industry, and utilizes medical-grade hardware. Data from the tests is sent to the Segura app, ensuring digital traceability and the ability to generate compliance reports or feed data via an API. The company aims to provide a more affordable and efficient alternative to traditional laboratory testing, which can take weeks for results.

Segura's business model is based on the sale of consumables, specifically the proprietary test strips, at a cost of around $3 per test. The company targets a range of clients, including urban utilities, rural water providers, and organizations involved in environmental monitoring. In September 2024, Segura raised $50K in funding through an accelerator/incubator program with investors including Techstars and Planet Positive Lab.
