Scotiabank Perú S.A.A. is a Peruvian financial institution and a subsidiary of the Canadian group The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank). The bank's presence in Peru dates back to 1997 when it acquired a 35% stake in Banco Sudamericano. It was officially established on May 13, 2006, following the merger of Banco Wiese Sudameris and Banco Sudamericano after Scotiabank acquired a majority stake in both.
Through a series of strategic acquisitions, Scotiabank Perú has significantly expanded its market presence. Key milestones include the acquisition of Banco del Trabajo in 2008, which expanded its footprint in the consumer finance and micro-enterprise segments. In 2015, it acquired Citibank's commercial and retail portfolio in Peru. A major development occurred in 2019 with the purchase of a 51% controlling interest in Banco Cencosud, a move that made Scotiabank Perú the country's second-largest credit card issuer. As of 2024, Sebastián Arcuri serves as the CEO and Country Head.
The bank offers a comprehensive suite of financial products and services to a diverse client base that includes approximately 3.5 million retail, corporate, commercial, and institutional customers. Its offerings span personal and business banking, wealth management, private banking, corporate and investment banking, and capital markets. For individuals, the product portfolio includes savings and current accounts, credit and debit cards, personal and mortgage loans, and various insurance products. For its business and institutional clients, the bank provides cash management, trade finance, leasing, foreign exchange, and treasury services. Revenue is generated through interest income from loans, fees for services, and returns on investment activities.
