Score Music Interactive, the company behind Xhail, has developed a patented, cloud-based platform for music creation targeted at professionals in film, television, gaming, and advertising. The technology allows users without musical expertise to generate unique, real-time musical scores by combining single-instrument performance stems from real musicians. This approach provides a flexible alternative to traditional music libraries, enabling users to tailor music to their specific needs.
The company was founded in 2013 by Irish musician and composer Mick Kiely and his wife, Moira Kiely. Mick Kiely has a background in composing for video games and co-founded Games Music Ireland, a program for teaching music composition for the gaming industry. Score Music Interactive has established operations in Dublin, Los Angeles, Stockholm, and Boston. Over its history, the company has raised significant funding, including nearly €5 million by May 2018, with notable investments from the California-based investor Bridge Brothers LLC. In 2020, IFOX Investments AB agreed to acquire all outstanding shares of the company, subsequently planning to rename itself to Xhail Music AB (publ).
The platform's business model is based on licensing the music created, with Xhail retaining the copyright. It serves clients such as NBC, CBS, Universal, and Asylum Entertainment. Xhail has also engaged in partnerships, including one with the Los Angeles Film School, providing students with access to the platform for scoring their films. The technology is designed for broad application, from movie trailers and social media to a planned consumer-facing application.
