In 1987, Scott Schultz and Jane Williams launched a consulting firm with a clear focus: helping nonprofit organizations thrive. The Philadelphia-based company, Schultz & Williams, was built on the principle that to be successful, a nonprofit needs to integrate its fundraising, marketing, and management strategies. Their services were designed to provide stability and help clients meet their goals, covering everything from strategic planning and development to direct response fundraising and data analytics. For over three decades, the firm grew nationally, serving a wide range of nonprofits including those in education, arts and culture, social justice, and healthcare. Their approach was hands-on, with consultants who often had direct experience working within the very sectors they were now serving. This insider perspective allowed them to create tailored, practical plans for their clients. A significant new chapter began on August 1, 2025, when Schultz & Williams was acquired by Carey & Co, a national firm specializing in outsourced nonprofit leadership. This move was framed as a natural step to combine the strengths of both companies, pairing Schultz & Williams' deep fundraising expertise with Carey & Co's capabilities in financial management and human resources. Following the acquisition, Scott Schultz transitioned to the role of Chairman Emeritus, ensuring continuity, while Craig Shelley was appointed as the new CEO to lead the firm forward.
