Saluspot was a health technology company founded in Madrid, Spain, in 2011 by Gonzalo Castellano. The company developed an online eHealth platform designed to serve as an interactive community connecting medical professionals with users.
The platform's primary function was to create a social health network where individuals could ask health-related questions directly to registered physicians, connect with other patients, locate nearby doctors, and schedule appointments. Saluspot aimed to provide reliable and quality health information, addressing the challenge of finding trustworthy medical advice online. For users, the service offered a freemium model; access to previously answered general questions was free, while a premium service provided direct answers from doctors to specific user questions. For medical professionals, the platform provided increased visibility and additional services, such as a space to collaborate with peers and access to a purchasing center for medical supplies under favorable conditions.
In February 2013, Saluspot secured $1.34 million in a Series A funding round from investors including Vitamina K, JME Venture Capital, and Fundacion Jose Manuel Entrecanales. A significant milestone occurred in February 2014 when Telefónica Digital, the global digital innovation unit of Telefónica, acquired a strategic stake in the company. This partnership was intended to accelerate Saluspot's growth and expansion into Latin America, a region with high demand for accessible digital health services. At the time, Saluspot had a network of thousands of registered medical professionals in Spain and Chile. Following the acquisition, the company was considered deadpooled.
