The story of Salus begins not in a boardroom, but from a personal health crisis. In 1916, a German doctor, Otto Greither, having found a solution to his own chronic illness, felt compelled to share it. He founded Salus-Werk in Munich, based on the principle that nature provides what the body needs to heal. Greither developed the 'Salus-Kur,' a treatment regimen, and began producing natural remedies and teas. The concept quickly gained traction within Germany's growing 'Natural Lifestyle Movement'. To meet demand, Greither opened his own health food stores, called Salus Haus, expanding to 50 locations by 1928. After the founder's death and the destruction of World War II, his son, also named Otto Greither, took over the company in 1945. He rebuilt the business, eventually moving the headquarters to Bruckmühl in 1968 to allow for greater production. This commitment to its founding ideals has defined the company's journey for over a century. A key moment was the 1991 acquisition of its competitor, Walther Schoenenberger Pflanzensaftwerk, a move that made the Salus Group a market leader in the health food sector. The family legacy continues, with the founder's grandson, Otto Greither, still involved, and Dr. Florian Block joining the management in 2015. Today, Salus remains a family-influenced business, operating in over 60 countries.
