SALIDO provides a comprehensive, all-in-one restaurant operating system designed to unify front-of-house, back-of-house, and payment processing into a single interface. The company was founded in 2012 by Shu Chowdhury, along with co-founders Shom Chowdhury and Casey Cohen. Shu Chowdhury, an engineer-turned-entrepreneur, leveraged over a decade of experience building enterprise software for the aerospace and finance industries, combined with firsthand experience in restaurant operations, to launch the company. He identified an opportunity to overhaul antiquated point-of-sale systems by focusing on user experience, data management, and operational workflows.
The firm's core offering is a cloud-based platform that combines point-of-sale (POS), customer relationship management (CRM), labor management, inventory and recipe management, and advanced reporting and analytics. This integrated approach eliminates the need for restaurants to piece together multiple, disparate software systems. SALIDO caters to a range of hospitality businesses, from full-service and fine-dining establishments to multi-unit restaurant groups, including notable clients like Eataly, Eleven Madison Park, and Jean-Georges' ABC Kitchen. The business operates on a subscription-based model, providing its software solution to streamline operations and offer data-driven insights for decision-making. Key features include customizable floor plans, dynamic menu management, real-time reporting, a digital kitchen display system, and tools for managing employee access and timecards. Following its acquisition by North American Bancard (NAB) in September 2020, SALIDO's technology was vertically integrated with NAB's EPX payment platform. This integration enhanced its capabilities to include tableside mobile ordering, contactless NFC payments, and direct online ordering.
Prior to its acquisition, SALIDO had raised a total of $16 million over four funding rounds, with backing from investors such as 500 Startups, First Data, and prominent figures from the culinary world like Tom Colicchio and Stephen Starr. The acquisition by NAB has allowed SALIDO to continue investing in product development while leveraging NAB's extensive distribution network.
