This measure is intended to eliminate fake profiles, catfish, and scam accounts. For an added layer of security, Safer Date offers premium members the option of undergoing thorough global criminal background and insolvency checks. This multi-tiered verification process is designed to prevent individuals with a history of serious criminal offenses from using the app.

The company operates on a subscription-based model, generating revenue from users who opt for premium memberships to access features like the enhanced background checks. The app launched on December 1, 2021, and by autumn 2022, it had accumulated over 13,000 downloads. Safer Date has successfully secured funding, including a £225,000 investment in early 2022, notably from the Women Angels of the North syndicate, which supports female-founded businesses.
