The story begins in the 1920s when its founder, S.H. Kelkar, set up a fragrance manufacturing unit in a garage in Mumbai. This was inspired by the call to boycott imported goods during India's Non-Cooperation Movement. The business was formally incorporated on July 1, 1955, taking over the businesses run by Mr. V.G. Vaze. The Vaze family has managed the company for generations. The company, now known as Keva, creates fragrances and flavors for a wide array of products, including personal care, fabric care, and food and beverages. By the 1950s, S.H. Kelkar was supplying fragrances to major soap manufacturers in India. Over the decades, the company has expanded its operations, establishing manufacturing units and creative development centers in India and Europe. A significant event in the company's journey was its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2015. The company listed its shares on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) on November 16, 2015. This move was partly to provide an exit for private equity firm Blackstone, which had invested in the company in 2012. The IPO marked a new phase of growth, enabling the company to reduce debt and expand further. Since then, Keva has continued its expansion through strategic acquisitions of companies in India and Europe.
