Rumah.com was an online property portal based in Indonesia that operated for over a decade before ceasing operations on November 30, 2023. Launched in 2007, the company established itself as a significant player in the Indonesian real estate market. In 2011, PropertyGuru Group, a Singapore-based proptech company, acquired Rumah.com to solidify its market-leading position in the burgeoning Indonesian online property sector.
The platform functioned as an online marketplace connecting property seekers with agents and developers. It catered to a wide range of clients, including individual buyers, renters, and investors, offering listings for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The business model centered on providing a comprehensive suite of marketing and sales services to trade customers, such as property agents and developers, who listed their properties on the site. At the time of its acquisition by PropertyGuru, Rumah.com featured over 120,000 properties and attracted approximately 500,000 buyers monthly.
In August 2023, PropertyGuru Group announced the strategic decision to shut down Rumah.com. The move was part of a broader organizational review aimed at prioritizing resources towards businesses with scalable growth and strong unit economics. Concurrently, the parent company also decided to sunset its SaaS product, FastKey, in Indonesia and other markets. The closure of Rumah.com impacted 61 employees, who were provided with severance packages and support for their transition. Despite the shutdown of its marketplace operations, PropertyGuru continues its presence in Indonesia through the PropertyGuru Indonesia Property Awards.
