RRT Global, founded in 2010 by chemical engineers Oleg Parputs and Oleg Giiazov, specializes in developing and licensing technologies for the oil refining and petrochemical industries. The founders leveraged their prior experience at an engineering firm serving the oil refining sector to launch the company. Initial funding was secured from Foresight Ventures, Bright Capital, and the Skolkovo Foundation, where RRT Global became a resident of its Energy Efficient Technologies cluster in 2011. That same year, Douglas Harris, a former Vice President of Refining at BP and TNK-BP, joined as CEO.
The company's business model centers on licensing its proprietary technologies and providing specialized R&D services to oil refining and petrochemical companies. These services include pilot plant testing, catalyst evaluation, and consulting, all conducted at its own R&D center. RRT Global aims to help clients optimize existing commercial units, reduce product loss, and enhance production efficiency. In 2015, the firm formed a strategic alliance with American engineering company KBR to bring its technologies to the global market and was later acquired by KBR on August 8, 2019.
A core product is the patented PRIS (Process of Refining Iso-paraffinic Separator) technology, which facilitates cheaper and cleaner gasoline production. This technology uniquely combines refining and catalytic systems, such as isomerization and fractionation, into a single unit, a principle more commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry. The main benefit of the PRIS system is its ability to process low-octane, straight-run gasoline fractions to produce high-octane components that meet EURO-5 standards, while simultaneously reducing capital and energy costs. In 2017, the company established a digital transformation division, which evolved into a separate entity, RRT Digital, to provide specialized IT solutions for the manufacturing sector.
