RoundPegg was a software company that operated in the human resources technology sector, specializing in what it termed "culture science."
Founded in 2009 by Tim Wolters and headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, the firm aimed to quantify and manage organizational culture. Wolters, a multi-time SaaS entrepreneur, participated in the Techstars accelerator program in 2010 to advance the company. His entrepreneurial journey involved using machine learning to optimize business processes, a background that informed RoundPegg's data-centric approach to culture. Over its lifetime, the company successfully raised a total of $11.1 million in funding over nine rounds from investors including Access Venture Partners, Techstars, and Point B Capital.
The company's core business was providing a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform designed to help organizations measure, understand, and strategically align their workplace culture. The platform functioned by aggregating the personal values of employees to create a data-driven picture of the company's culture. This enabled clients, which included major enterprises like Microsoft, Nike, and eBay, to make more informed decisions regarding hiring, employee engagement, and talent development. The business model was centered on subscriptions to its suite of tools, which included 'CulturePegg' for overall analysis, 'HirePegg' for recruitment, 'EngagePegg' for employee engagement, and 'TeamPegg' for team dynamics. The platform provided analytics to identify cultural strengths and weaknesses and offered customized plans to help businesses achieve goals such as improving innovation or retaining top performers.
In August 2017, RoundPegg was acquired by Achievers, a company focused on employee recognition and rewards platforms. The acquisition was described as an "acqui-hire," and the RoundPegg brand was ultimately phased out. Since the acquisition, Wolters has moved on to start other ventures, including a non-profit focused on climate tech.
