Roll Mafia is an Indian quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain specializing in kathi rolls, dum biryani, and other Indian street food. The company was founded in 2012 by brothers Varun and Vishal Sahay. The idea originated after a game of golf in Kolkata, where they enjoyed the local rolls and saw a market opportunity to make them more widely available.
The first outlet was opened in a mall in Raipur but had to shut down within six months when the mall itself failed. Despite this initial setback, the founders learned valuable lessons and successfully relaunched, establishing a presence in Pune and their hometown of Patna. The brand name 'Roll Mafia' was coined by Varun's wife, inspired by feedback that the food was "criminally tasty".
The business operates through dine-in, takeaway, and online delivery models. In 2015, Roll Mafia's parent company, SLS Cuisines India, secured $151,000 in seed funding from Singapore-based Equentia Natural Resources and a group of private investors to fuel its expansion. The funding was aimed at opening 50 new outlets across major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi. At that time, the company had eight outlets in Pune and three in Patna.
The menu features a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian rolls, such as paneer and chicken tikka rolls, alongside other popular Indian dishes like biryani and various curries.
