Robotruck

Robotruck Inc. is a technology company established in April 2024 that develops and implements autonomous driving systems for heavy-duty trucks to address Japan's logistics challenges, such as driver shortages and the "2024 problem" stemming from new overtime regulations. The company was founded by Nan Wu, a co-founder of the U.S. autonomous vehicle company TuSimple, who brings extensive experience in the field. Wu previously led TuSimple Japan and has a background in autonomous driving research at Waseda University. In June 2025, Yusuke Haga, who has experience in the automotive and aerospace industries at Mitsubishi Corporation and as COO of SkyDrive, joined as co-founder and CEO.

The company leverages advanced AI algorithms and technology inherited from the team and expertise of the former TuSimple Japan. This team achieved a Japanese record with a 270km Level 4 autonomous driving test on the Tomei Expressway in 2023. Shortly after its founding, Robotruck conducted a successful 100km Level 4 equivalent test on the Shin-Tomei Expressway in February 2025 as part of a government initiative. Robotruck aims to commercialize its technology, planning demonstration experiments for the Tokyo-Nagoya route in 2025 and the Tokyo-Osaka route in 2026, with the goal of launching a commercial product in 2028. The business model focuses on providing these autonomous systems to logistics operators to enhance efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and improve working conditions for drivers.

Robotruck has secured significant funding to accelerate its development. The company raised 300 million yen in a seed round in March 2025 and approximately 1.2 billion yen in a Pre-Series A round in July 2025. Key investors include Globis Capital Partners, ORIX Corporation, UTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd., and Archetype Ventures, among others. The company has also entered into a business alliance with ORIX to jointly develop and market the autonomous driving systems for logistics providers.
