Ringadoc was a healthcare technology company focused on streamlining communication between medical professionals and their patients. Founded in Los Angeles in 2010 by Jordan Michaels and Micah Grossman, the company developed a platform to manage patient-doctor interactions outside of typical office hours.
Co-founder Jordan Michaels, who served as CEO, drew inspiration for Ringadoc from his experiences as a pre-med student at the University of Southern California, where he studied neuroscience. Observing inefficiencies in the healthcare system, he deferred medical school to establish the company, aiming to apply technology to make these interactions more efficient. Co-founder Micah Grossman, the son of two doctors, brought his background in economics and experience with a medical billing service to his role as Product Manager.
The company's core product was a cloud-based, automated answering service for physicians. This service allowed doctors to receive, triage, and respond to after-hours patient messages through a web browser or a dedicated mobile application for Android and Apple devices. The system prompted patients to leave a message and indicate the urgency of their issue, enabling doctors to better manage and prioritize patient calls. The business model was subscription-based, with a starting price of $69 per provider. Ringadoc initially explored a direct-to-consumer model offering on-demand video and phone consultations but later pivoted to focus on providing its call-routing technology directly to medical practices.
After attracting seed funding from investors including FF Angel, Wavemaker Partners, and Telegraph Hill Capital, Ringadoc was acquired by Practice Fusion, a major cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) platform, in August 2014. The acquisition was intended to serve as Practice Fusion's entry into the growing telemedicine market, with plans to integrate Ringadoc's communication tools into its existing EHR system.
