In 2009, a group of employees, including Daryl Bernstein, Cary Dunn, and Jonathan Siegel, were tired of the hassles of finalizing contracts. They were constantly waiting by the fax machine for signatures, especially from international clients. This pain point led them to spin RightSignature out of a web app company, Burnside Digital. The idea was simple: create an easy way to get documents signed electronically. They developed a web and mobile e-signature service that allowed users to send documents for signature without forcing the recipient to create an account. The business was designed to digitize document workflows, a critical need for industries like accounting, financial services, real estate, and insurance. By 2014, RightSignature had gained significant traction, with businesses across five continents using the platform. The company's success caught the attention of Citrix Systems, which was looking to enhance its ShareFile platform. The two companies were already integration partners. In October 2014, Citrix announced it had acquired RightSignature, integrating the e-signature capabilities directly into its own product line to offer a complete document workflow solution.
