Rex

Rex is a consumer social application designed to streamline the discovery and sharing of recommendations for places like restaurants, museums, and parks. Founded in 2021 by Aliza Rosen, a former Twitter product manager, the company is based in San Francisco, California. Rosen's passion for exploring new places and the difficulty in finding personalized, curated content led to the creation of the app.

The application utilizes artificial intelligence and computer vision to scan a user's phone camera roll, identifying photos taken at various locations. It then uses photo metadata, coordinates, and timestamps to generate recommendations, or "rex." These recommendations can be organized into shareable playlists, viewed on an interactive map, and discovered through a social feed of friends' activities. The platform aims to provide trusted suggestions based on the user's network.

Rex launched publicly after a year and a half in beta and secured $3.96 million in a seed funding round in June 2023. The round was led by Accel, with participation from Khosla Ventures, Future Positive (a fund by Twitter co-founder Biz Stone), and angel investors from companies like Twitter, Snap, and Pinterest. The app is available for free on iOS. According to Tracxn, the company is now considered deadpooled as of July 2025.
