Renewus
Comprehensive waste management and resource conversion solutions.
Renewus is a South Korean environmental services company that provides integrated solutions in waste management and resource recovery. Its history began in 1997, originating from a subsidiary of the Korea Environment Corporation, initially focusing on operating and maintaining public wastewater treatment facilities. In 2021, the company was incorporated into the SK Group, and in 2024, it changed its name from EMC (Environment Management Corporation) to Renewus. The current CEO is Kwon Ji-hoon.
The company's business is structured around two main pillars: Water Business and Waste Business. The Water Business involves the entire value chain, from operating and maintaining public and private sewage and wastewater treatment facilities to engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and private investment projects. The Waste Business encompasses a comprehensive portfolio including the collection, transportation, incineration (both general and medical), and landfilling of waste. A key aspect of their model is converting waste into energy by utilizing heat generated during incineration for power generation and steam supply. This positions them as a total solution provider, managing the process from upstream activities like recycling and collection to downstream processes like water treatment, incineration, and landfilling.
Serving both public and private sector clients, Renewus operates over 1,300 treatment facilities across South Korea. Its business model focuses on creating value by transforming waste into high-value energy and resources, aligning with a circular economy paradigm. Revenue is generated through operating contracts, construction projects, and the sale of recovered energy. The company aims to expand into high-value areas such as industrial water supply and pyrolysis oil commercialization to further enhance its market position.
